Tone of voice

A draft is only useful if it sounds like you. Tone of voice settings shape everything Parachute writes on your behalf - email replies, follow-ups from meetings, and documents - so the first draft reads like yours, not like a template.

Tone settings are personal to you. Open Settings, then Tone of voice.

Email tones

When Parachute drafts an email reply, it offers the draft in up to 3 tones, shown as tabs on the draft. Out of the box these are Direct, Warm and Formal - but they’re yours to change.

Each tone is a card with a name and a plain-English description of how it should write. Rewrite them to match how you actually correspond:

  • Rename Formal to Court style and describe exactly what that means at your firm
  • Make Warm your long-standing-client voice
  • Disable a tone you never use, or add a new one (up to 3)

Changes apply the next time Parachute drafts a reply. Restore defaults brings back the original three at any time.

Your base email voice

Underneath every tone sits your base email voice: the things that stay constant whether the email is direct or warm. Your sign-off, your greeting style, your formality baseline. Set it once in the Voice and conventions section and every tone respects it - so switching from Direct to Formal never changes how you sign your name.

Document voice and drafting conventions

Two more cards in Voice and conventions shape written documents:

  • Document voice - how your prose reads in advices, letters and file notes. Plain or formal, first person or firm voice, sentence length
  • Drafting preferences - structural conventions that aren’t about tone: numbered headings, defined terms conventions, how you set out action items

These apply whenever Parachute drafts or edits a document for you, including meeting follow-ups.

Editing with AI

Every card has an Edit with AI option: describe the change in plain English (“add that I never use the word ‘furthermore’”) and review the proposed rewrite before saving. Nothing changes until you apply it.

Where your tones show up

  • Email replies in chat - the draft appears with one tab per enabled tone; pick the one that fits and edit from there
  • Follow-up emails from meeting notes - drafted from the discussion, in your tones. See Meeting notetaker
  • Daily briefing replies - the reply dialog offers your tones, not the stock ones
