Memory
Tell Parachute once that you sign off with “Kind regards”, prefer short paragraphs, or always want advice flagged separately from information - and it stops being something you re-type into every prompt. Memory holds your working preferences and applies them whenever Parachute chats with you or drafts for you.
Memory is personal. Your memories are yours, not shared with your firm, and you can read, edit or delete every one of them.
What memory is, and is not
Memory holds preferences: how you like things written, structured and signed off.
It never holds:
- Client or matter information. Names, parties, facts of a matter and document contents are never saved to memory
- Your conversations. Parachute does not recall what was said in previous chats. Each chat starts fresh; memory only carries your preferences across
This is deliberate. Preferences make your drafts sound like you; case facts belong on the matter, where your firm’s access controls apply.
How memories are saved
There are two ways a memory gets created:
- You add it. Open Settings, then Memory, and type a preference into the quick-add box. One line is enough - “Always use numbered headings in advice documents”
- Parachute notices. When you state a durable preference in chat (“stop using headings in emails”), Parachute saves it and shows a Saved to memory notice with a link, so nothing is remembered silently
Every saved memory appears on the Memory page with a badge showing whether it was added by you or captured automatically.
Review, edit and delete
On the Memory page, click any memory to open it. You can:
- Edit it directly - each memory is plain text you can rewrite
- Edit with AI - describe the change (“make this apply to letters only”) and review the proposed rewrite before it saves
- Delete it - gone immediately, and it stops applying to new work
Turn memory off
Two switches at the top of the Memory page keep you in control:
- Apply memory when I chat and draft - turn this off and Parachute ignores your memories everywhere, without deleting them
- Save preferences automatically - turn this off and Parachute stops capturing preferences from chat. You can still add memories yourself
Where memory applies
With memory on, your preferences shape:
- Chat - the AI knows your preferences and can consult them when relevant
- Email drafting - replies and follow-ups are written in your voice, under whichever tone you pick. See Tone of voice
- Document drafting and editing - your document voice and drafting conventions apply when Parachute writes or revises documents
Next steps
- Tone of voice - edit the tones Parachute drafts your emails in
- Writing effective prompts - what to put in a prompt versus what to put in memory
