Knowledge Base

Your knowledge base is the foundation of Parachute’s AI intelligence. It stores your organisation’s policies, procedures, and legal documentation so Parachute can generate contextually relevant documents and identify conflicts with your existing framework.

Why it matters

Without a knowledge base, Parachute’s AI generates documents based on general legal knowledge. With a knowledge base, it generates documents that are specific to your organisation - referencing your existing policies, using your preferred terminology, and maintaining consistency across all your documentation.

What to add

Documents and files

Upload your existing legal documentation:

  • Privacy policies
  • Data protection policies
  • Terms of service
  • Employee handbooks
  • Information security policies
  • Vendor contracts and templates
  • Incident response plans
  • Legal audit reports

Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT

URLs

Paste links to web-hosted content:

  • Your current privacy policy page
  • Regulatory guidance documents
  • Industry standards and frameworks
  • Internal wiki pages (if publicly accessible)

Company information

Fill in structured details about your organisation:

  • Business description and services
  • Data processing activities
  • Third-party services and vendors
  • Geographic operations and jurisdictions
  • Industry-specific regulatory requirements

Renaming resources

By default, each knowledge base resource is named after the original filename or URL. You can set a custom display name to make resources easier to find.

  • During upload - enter a display name before confirming. If you leave it blank, the original filename or URL is used.
  • Using the context menu - select Rename from the context menu. You can then enter the new name in the dialog box that appears.

Clearing the display name resets it back to the original filename or URL.

How Parachute uses your knowledge base

During document drafting

Parachute references your knowledge base to:

  • Use consistent terminology and language
  • Include provisions that align with your existing policies
  • Avoid contradicting established procedures
  • Reference relevant internal documents

During document review

The knowledge base powers the conflict detection stage:

  • Flags inconsistencies between new and existing documents
  • Identifies gaps in coverage compared to your existing framework
  • Highlights where new documents might create conflicting obligations

During AI Q&A

When you ask questions in threads, Parachute searches your knowledge base to provide answers grounded in your firm’s actual documentation rather than generic legal knowledge.

Organisation vs. global knowledge base

Parachute maintains two knowledge bases:

  • Organisation knowledge base - your private documents, specific to your organisation
  • Global knowledge base - curated legal content maintained by Parachute, covering common regulations, frameworks, and best practices

Both are searched when generating or reviewing documents, with your organisation’s content taking priority.

Best practices

  • Start with your most important policies - privacy policy, data protection policy, and terms of service give Parachute the most useful context
  • Keep content current - update your knowledge base when policies change so Parachute always references the latest versions
  • Add context, not just documents - the company information section is as valuable as uploaded files for helping Parachute understand your organisation
  • Review AI suggestions against your knowledge base - if Parachute suggests something that conflicts with your policies, it may indicate your policies need updating
