Smokeball integration
The Smokeball integration connects your Parachute workspace to your Smokeball practice management system. Once connected, you can search matters, log time entries, manage contacts, and access your practice data - all from within Parachute’s AI chat.
The integration gives Parachute’s AI access to your Smokeball data through natural conversation. You don’t need to learn specific commands - just ask for what you need.
These work in any Parachute thread, whether or not it’s linked to a specific matter:
- Search matters - find matters in Smokeball by name, number, or keyword, with optional status filters like “Open” or “Closed”
- Link matters - connect a Parachute matter to its Smokeball equivalent so future queries pull the right context
- Create matters - create a new matter in Smokeball directly from Parachute, with help choosing the right matter type and linking the appropriate client contacts
- Run conflict checks - search for a person or company and see every matter they’re associated with, including their role on each matter (e.g. Client, Other Side). Useful for identifying potential conflicts of interest before taking on new work
- Browse matter types - see the full list of matter types available in your Smokeball account, grouped by category
- Search contacts - look up clients, firms, or other contacts in your Smokeball database
- Create contacts - add new contacts to Smokeball without leaving Parachute
- Update contacts - edit contact details like phone numbers, emails, or addresses
Once a Parachute thread is linked to a Smokeball matter, you get access to matter-specific tools:
- View matter details - see the full matter summary, parties, status, and key dates
- Log time - record time entries and fees against the matter
- View files - browse documents stored on the matter
- Save documents to Smokeball - save a document you’ve created in Parachute to the linked Smokeball matter as a PDF
- View and create memos - read existing memos or add new ones
- View and create tasks - check task lists or assign new tasks
- View and create events - see upcoming events or schedule new ones
- View time entries - see all time entries on the matter with a total summary of hours and fees
- View invoices - check invoice numbers, amounts, due dates, and payment status
- Browse matter stages - see all available workflow stages in your Smokeball account
- Log in to your Parachute account at app.goparachute.ai
- Navigate to Firm settings in the sidebar, then open Integrations
- Find Smokeball and click Connect
- You’ll be redirected to Smokeball to authorise Parachute
- Grant the required permissions and click Allow
Once connected, Smokeball tools are automatically available in all new threads.
To use matter-specific tools (time logging, files, tasks, etc.), link a Parachute matter to its Smokeball equivalent:
- Open a thread within a matter
- Ask the AI to search for and link the matter, e.g. “Link this to the Smith family matter in Smokeball”
- The AI will search Smokeball, show you matching results, and ask you to confirm
You can also ask the AI to link from any thread: “Search Smokeball for the Henderson property matter and link it.”

Finding information

“Add a memo noting that the client confirmed they’re happy with the revised terms”
Saving documents
“Save this document to the Smokeball matter as a PDF”
Conflict checks
“Run a conflict check on John Henderson”
“Check if Smith & Associates have any existing matters with us”
Creating matters
“Create a new family law matter in Smokeball for Jane Smith”
Contacts
“Find the contact details for Smith & Associates in Smokeball”
“Update Jane Smith’s email address to jane@newdomain.com.au”
For actions that change data in Smokeball (creating matters, logging time, saving documents, creating contacts, adding tasks, etc.), Parachute will always ask you to confirm before proceeding. You’ll see a summary of what will be created or changed, and can approve or cancel.
No data is written to Smokeball without your explicit confirmation.
- The integration is read/write for supported data types - it cannot delete records in Smokeball
- File content cannot be opened directly from Parachute - use Smokeball to view file contents
- Documents saved from Parachute to Smokeball are converted to PDF format
- The integration requires an active Smokeball subscription with API access
- Only one Smokeball account can be connected per Parachute organisation
