Document Templates

Templates are reference Word documents that Parachute’s AI uses as a base when drafting new documents. Unlike branding, templates are about content - structure, clauses, language, and formatting patterns that the AI should follow.

For example, you might upload your firm’s standard employment agreement as a template, then ask Parachute to draft a senior designer employment agreement based on it. The AI will follow the template’s structure, clause order, headings, and style while adapting the content to your prompt.

From the Templates page (under Documents):

  1. Click Upload template
  2. Select a .docx file from your computer
  3. Give the template a name (e.g. “Standard employment agreement”, “NDA template”)
  4. Click Save

A template is any Word document that represents a standard or repeatable document your firm produces. Good templates to upload include:

  • Standard agreements - employment agreements, NDAs, service agreements, vendor contracts
  • Policy templates - privacy policies, acceptable use policies, information security policies
  • Letter templates - engagement letters, advice letters, demand letters
  • Framework documents - compliance checklists, audit templates, due diligence questionnaires

The AI extracts the text content from your template and uses it as a reference, so the document should contain the full text you want the AI to follow - not just headings or placeholders. Do not upload signed or matter-specific documents - use sanitised precedents with client names, pricing, and other confidential details removed.

When you create a new document, you can select a template from the dropdown. Parachute’s AI will then:

  • Follow the template’s structure, headings, and clause order
  • Use similar language and terminology
  • Adapt the content based on your prompt and any additional instructions
  • Draw from your knowledge base and organisation metadata as usual
  1. Upload your firm’s standard employment agreement as a template
  2. Create a new document and select the template from the dropdown
  3. Write a prompt like: “Draft a senior designer employment agreement with a $150k salary, 4 weeks annual leave, and a 3-month probation period”
  4. Parachute drafts the agreement following your template’s structure and clause patterns, adapted to the specifics in your prompt

When you export a document that was drafted from a template, the export dialog gives you the choice of:

  • Your letterhead branding - apply one of your uploaded letterheads (headers, footers, page styling)
  • No branding - export without any letterhead applied

Templates and branding work independently - templates guide the AI’s content during drafting, while branding controls the visual presentation at export.
